Michelle Dubreuil Macek
BIODANZA FACILITATOR AND LIFE COACH
MICHELLE DUBREUIL MACEK
My first amazing outdoor encounter with Biodanza in Johannesburg, South Africa completely redefined my vision for life and lit it on fire! I was prompted to a class after two different synchronicities tempted me to try it out…an ad on a pin board and an article in a magazine.
The rest in history, as we say, after I had coffee with the effervescent Carolina in Benmore Gardens, Rivonia in Johannesburg!
I was blown away by the power of REAL dance even though by then I had danced ALL my life and considered myself “a dancer”. I wasn’t really…and Biodanza helped me understand that my connection to the dance was missing in many ways. I joined up with this amazing tribe immediately and danced and danced and danced to my heart’s content.
After the 3 year rocking Biodanza training in the South African School of Biodanza with uber Director Carolina Churba-Doyle that completely changed my life path, I decided to dedicate myself to the teaching of Biodanza worldwide. Since then, I have trained with Rolando Toro, the creator of Biodanza, in Italy and Brazil, as well as many other fabulous instructors around the globe too numerous to name and too fabulous to boot!
LIFE AS I KNEW IT AND KNOW IT
Flashback before Africa…. and before my encounter with Biodanza, I was…still am… a graduate of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut and Middlebury College in Vermont holding a BA and MA in French/Education. I have been an educator since 1985 both in the US and internationally, a Fulbright scholar in Benin which brought me to Africa in the first place in 1995.
Four years later, hubby and new child in hand, Fulbright job finished, I moved from Benin, West Africa teaching French/English at various schools in Uganda, South Africa and Zambia and volunteered in many capacities. I love Africa and hold it dear to my heart for all the gifts the people and continent have generously offered me both personally and spiritually. Can’t wait to get back one day…
After graduating from the the SA School of Biodanza in South Africa, I began facilitation of Biodanza in Zambia, where I had a Biodanza Studio at my house for adults, children/youth and classes for moms/dads & tots. I also went to schools facilitating sessions for teachers and students as well as to a local hospice, Our Lady’s Hospice in Kalingalinga in Lusaka where I danced with the needing caretakers bi-monthly. This was a joy in my life and I so loved going there to add a little joy into everyone’s life.
BACK IN THE U.S.S.A. !!!
However, in 2009 my family and I made a move back to the USA. After the difficult adjustment….14 years in Africa will do that to you…. I began facilitating classes/workshops in Maryland, New York City, Miami and Philadelphia among others. It was challenging for us all, but here we are thriving. Adaptability is my middle name!
OH THE PLACES YOU’LL GO AND THINGS YOU WILL DO
These past years, I have completed the extension for Biodanza for children/youth in South Africa with Alejandro Balbi Toro and love working with kids of all ages. I offer Family Biodanza and classes for youth.
Biodanza-Voice & Percussion has also become a passion of mine and I have joyfully completed the Extension for Biodanza, Voice & Percussion with Sergio Cruz in Brazil.
I have begun the Biodanza for Organizations Extension to be able to bring the dance to corporations who need to loosen the neck ties and chill out a bit more! Will be completed with that by the end of 2013.
Outside of the many cities I have facilitated in the USA, the renowned center for healing and renewal the Omega Institute at Rhinebeck, NY was a highlight in 2011 where Biodanza rocked Family Week! In 2012, I was honored to offer Biodanza at the Dance New England Summer Camp in Freedom New Hampshire and will be returning in August 2013. And soon in 2016, Biodanza will be brought the infamous retreat center, Kripalu, in Massachussetts!
MY SPIRIT FLIES
I am also Master Reiki Practitioner in the Usui Reiki Ryoho tradition as well as the Metta® Reiki tradition and try to surround myself with the numinous on a daily basis! I also incorporate the indigenous healing of Ame~Deus in my services. I offer healing services to those who live near me in Maryland…come hop on my table!
I AM IN SERVICE TO YOU
Currently, I have completed my amazing training with Martha Beck, life coach extraordinaire and monthly columnist in "O" magazine, and am life coaching anyone who wants to “dance” with me on or off the floor!
As Biodanza grows on the East Coast community, this website will be dedicated to informing the public about what is happening from Maine to Florida, so please contact me.
